So where do we begin? I’m a Yorkshire lad born and bred, born in Bradford West Yorkshire close to the Dales and as you may see on the TV Emmerdale farm!
I taught myself to cook at the age of 15, I had a quick period of growing up to do when my dad retired from work on health grounds and my mum had a lot on her plate working and feeding a family!
I started off with the basics, Beans on toast, Sandwiches that sort of simple meal, anything that could help my Mum and let her put her feet up a bit more! Nowadays I find myself educating her on new dishes, Fajitas, Curries, Thai food. All the sort of foods I didn’t have growing up, mainly as a lot are fiddly to make and some as she admits she was scared to experiment with flavours. When I showed her the simple way to add garlic and lemon to a chicken for Sunday roast she was a convert and that’s now the way we always eat it. The Rosemary, Thyme and Orange infused Lamb leg didn’t quite go the same way but I guess I can’t convert them on everything!
Moving onto Alcohol, when I was old enough to drink officially (winky face) I discovered a taste for spirits (Jack Daniels and Bacardi mainly) At the time my Friends were ordering commercially made lagers and generic drinks where as I was looking into what flavours went with what and creating drinks in my head. Without umbrellas and sparklers though I'm a Yorkshire lad let's not forget!! I wasn’t afraid to browse a cocktail menu, but being in Bradford you had to check what sort of bar you were in!!
Moving onto Recent times, I’ve met a new lady in my life that also has a love of cocktails; she’s from the bright lights of Manchester which has many up and coming bars and hotspots to increase cocktail exposure! This led me to take a chance to dust off my shakers and get back into it. Flavours had changed a lot, gone are the days of Black Russians, Pina Colada and Harvey Wall bangers, and it was time to brush up on current trends!
So I decided to set up a Website to share what I've learnt and created recently be it food or drinks, there are quite a few subjects I aim to tackle, Cocktails, dinner parties and one of my favourite things Batch cooking so you can enjoy at home! I have a few single friends who live on their own who claim its too much like had work to cook or 1, well I plan to touch on this and give some ideas on quick and easy meals to make
There's snippets of my other hobbies too, I’m a keen Cyclist I do 26 miles every day no matter on the weather, some think I’m daft some think I’m just too tight to pay for transport but the reality is I enjoy it and find it the least stressful way of commuting! There’s also Motorsport, mainly the Rally car I’m building, My Home brewing I’m still learning about and of course my adorable pooch Clio the Alsatian, who I’ve had since a pup and is a great excuse to get out in the middle of nowhere on a weekend!
